Multiscope

The Multiscope device and mobile app are designed to bring self diagnosis of basic issues related to ear, nose and mouth (ENM) to the reach of a patient in telemedicine, without the need for visiting a hospital every time. This ecosystem combines IoT technology that captures live video feed from the camera module of the device and streams the feed live to a smartphone app that stores the data in its local memory. Once the data is collected via the app, the patient sends it to the doctor for the analysis and then schedules a video consultation, where the doctor prescribes medication.

The vision

Building off Criador Lab’s work on the Multiscope, the goal was to create a convenient, easy-to-use and cost-effective self diagnosis device for ENM that helps patients to access Telemedicine. Visiting a hospital is not easily accessible to a lot of people and telemedicine is the solution for it for non-critical check-ups. Mr. Dustin Pratt turned to Criador Labs to help transform this idea of a multiscope into a device that is portable, easy-to-use, safe and cost-effective.

The process

The first step started with design research where we met multiple doctors and patients to understand the process of operating scopes, the safety standards, the pain points, the lacking, the needs finding and ended with finalising the set of features that should go into the device.

The next step was to work on the industrial design of multiscope which started with ideation of the multiscope by creating multiple sketches and then making concept designs based on the sketches. We then did the CFM analysis to make it more like a consumer product. Then we finalised the concept design that did best in terms of criteria that include ergonomics, functionality, feasibility, cost price.

In parallel, the UI/UX design for the mobile app screens was also developed with all the minimalistic focus.

The next step included engineering design that included:

a) Taking the final concept design to a manufacturable design (DFM). We designed the enclosure in Plastic (ABS) for manufacturing using Injection moulding.

b) Working on the electronics development included developing embedded software for the integration of components - a small camera module with LEDs around it, an image processor, a microcontroller, a Wi-Fi chip and a battery unit. The PCB was also developed to fit inside the enclosure.

c) Developing the iOS application with the designed screens that can connect to the Wi-Fi of the device and stream Live feed.

The final step was prototyping, where the PCB was fabricated and the components were assembled together and fitted inside a 3D printed enclosure. The functionality was then tested by connecting with the mobile app and fine-tuning the video feed.

That concluded our project where we delivered the final design files to the client to take it further for manufacturing.
